While spring is one of the most favored seasons for photos, it's also one of the rainiest seasons of the year in Central Illinois. One of the most common questions I receive from my Central IL photography clients is: What happens if it rains? Since this topic comes up often, I wanted to address it here on my blog!
My Rain and Storm Policy
First, it's important to distinguish between my rain policy and my storm policy. Your safety is always my top priority. If there is a thunderstorm with lightning and thunder, we will either adjust the session time or reschedule for another day. I will never shoot a session in a storm or unsafe weather conditions for your safety, as well as, mine.
However, if it's only raining, we have options! Oftentimes, we can shift your session to another time of the day when the rain lets up. But if you're open to it, we can also embrace the rain and create some truly unique and magical photos!
Fun in the Rain
I come fully prepared with the necessary gear to shoot in rainy conditions. I also bring clear umbrellas in both kids' and adult sizes to add a creative and whimsical touch to your session. Imagine your family dancing in the rain, jumping in puddles, and capturing joyful, candid moments! If this style isn’t what you envisioned, no worries—we can always reschedule a session within two weeks of your original session date!
How We Handle a Rainy Forecast Sporadically Throughout the Day
If your session is scheduled on a day with rain in the forecast, I will monitor the hourly weather updates leading up to your appointment. The day before your session, I will reach out with a tentative plan, which will be finalized the morning of your session when the forecast is more precise.
Typically, the plan will be as follows: In the morning, I will check in with you to discuss whether you'd like to keep your session at the scheduled time or move it to a different time when the rain is expected to clear.
Rain All Day
If it is expected to rain all day based on the hourly forecast the day before your session, we can reschedule your session to another day altogether. If we need to reschedule, I will reach out to you to schedule your new session date within two weeks of your original date.
Whether we reschedule or embrace the rain, my goal is to create a fun and stress-free experience while capturing beautiful memories for you and your family!
