My littlest is about to turn TWO! That completely blows my mind. It feels like just yesterday we were soaking in his first cry, smile, and laugh. Looking back, I see God’s goodness and blessings all around him. With his birthday approaching, I thought it would be fun to celebrate with a three-part series sharing his birth story.
The Story of Garrett | Part One
To start, I want to share how God moved in our lives to bring him to our family. After Ryleigh was born, I couldn’t imagine having another child. She was my world, and I wanted to give her everything. But in October 2022, I started having dreams about being pregnant and having a boy, and to be honest, I would be excited waking up at the thought of that being a reality. But I didn’t share this with my husband, Eric, because he always talked about having up to five kids, and I was in no way ready for that!
Then, in November, Eric and I took a weekend trip outside of Central Illinois. While shopping, I picked out a shirt I liked without realizing it was maternity. Eric smirks and says, "You know that's a maternity shirt and I’m not going to tell you what I’ve been dreaming about.” My eyes got wide as he admitted he’d been dreaming that I came to him, saying I was ready for another baby, and that it turned out to be a boy. In that moment, I felt like I had to tell him my dreams, so in the middle of Target we shared what we had been dreaming about.
The conversations continued throughout the weekend, and we agreed that if we had another child, it would need to be in the distant future for financial reasons. While you can never be fully “ready” for kids, we wanted to be responsible. But less than a week later, we both found out we were getting raises. Our next excuse? Daycare wouldn’t have an opening for several months after when we'd needed. A week later, while visiting Eric’s parents, they "casually" reminded us they were happy to help with grandkids whenever needed. It felt like God was saying, “What other excuses do you want to make?”
So, we put our trust in God and followed His plan. Now, as I watch my funny, smiley, joy-filled little boy, I can say with certainty that God perfectly placed him in our lives at just the right time. I feel so incredibly blessed every single day.
Garrett's story is one straight from God and one that is full of exciting precious moments, and I cannot wait to go more in depth in his story next week! Until then, here's a throwback of some photos from a Daddy and Me session with my boy earlier this year in Central, IL.
