As a Springfield, IL family photographer, one of my favorite parts of what I do is learning to see beauty in the simple, everyday moments. Photography has opened my eyes to details I used to overlook, like the way light hits the trees, how little hands reach for yours, and the calm of a sunset after a long day. It’s a gentle reminder to pause, take it in, and appreciate the blessings around us.
Take a Pause and Take It In
I know firsthand the struggles of a busy schedule, constantly running from one appointment to the next, rushing home from work to get dinner going, giving the kids a bath, maybe squeezing in a quick story, and then straight to bed. Even if you don’t have kids, we all find ourselves in a busy season at some point. It’s in those seasons that we often forget to stop and notice all the little blessings around us.
As a Springfield, IL photographer, one of the things I love most about my work is how it has helped me open my eyes to the beauty all around in my busy seasons. Often, as I’m driving my kids to sports practice or appointments, I’ll scout out potential photo locations. I notice the little flowers peeking up through the grass, how the trees line up in a perfect row, or how the tall grass sways so gracefully in the wind. Before becoming a photographer, I’ll be the first to admit that I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about any of that, but now I see the beauty within it.
I also notice the gorgeous sunsets and think to myself, “What a blessing it is that I get to witness this in this exact moment.” As a photographer, I capture moments and turn them into memories for you to hold onto forever. When I see something as incredible as a sunset, I do my best to take that moment in and tuck it into my memory as a reminder of how incredible the Creator of the Universe truly is.
The biggest thing I’ve loved about opening my eyes to the beauty and blessings around me is how it has changed the way I see my family. As a family photographer in Central Illinois, it’s my “job” to capture the little moments and details you might not even notice. I see the way your little one holds your finger, how you tuck their hair behind their ear, and the look in their eyes when they see you. That fuels me as a photographer, but also as a wife and mother. Since becoming a photographer, I’ve found deeper meaning in every moment with my own family. I love watching their passions blossom, cherishing the way they light up when they see me, and making time for all the little moments together.
So today, I want to challenge you to look at the world around you. Look at the nature, the sunsets, your family, and your friends through a photographer’s eyes. See the beauty in every detail and every little moment. Take it all in and hold onto it.
