Finding the Perfect Location for Your Photoshoot in Springfield, IL
Booking a photoshoot is exciting, but the next step of choosing the perfect location can feel overwhelming. Just as outfits play a significant role in your session, the right location can elevate your gallery and give your photos that extra touch. Whether you’re capturing family moments, senior portraits, or a special milestone, Springfield, IL, offers a variety of beautiful spots that can complement your style and vision.
In this post, I’ll be highlighting three of my most requested and favorite locations around Central, IL to help you find the perfect backdrop for your session. Centennial Park, Springfield, IL
Centennial Park is hands down my top recommendation for outdoor photoshoots in Springfield. This location is beautiful everywhere you look. It has everything from lush pathways between vibrant wildflower fields, trees that create beautiful backdrops, open grassy areas, access to the Sangamon Valley Trail, and even a pond! The park also features a large hill with a paved path leading to the top, providing a stunning backdrop for your photos if you’re up for a bit of a walk. This is particularly gorgeous at sunset!
This is an ideal location for nature-themed sessions, making it perfect for families, couples, and seniors. It’s also especially great for extended families since there’s plenty of space to spread out.
Bonus perk: The park has an amazing playground, so you can reward your little ones with some fun time after their photo session!
Washington Park, Springfield, IL
Washington Park is another favorite location of mine, known for its modern and elegant vibe. This picturesque park is perfect for capturing timeless moments. Starting near the water fountain, we can move to the park’s stunning gardens, capturing the beauty of the lush greenery and vibrant flowers. The park’s iconic white columns and charming stone pathways also make for fantastic photo opportunities. Also located in another section of the park is a gazebo, adding variety to your gallery.
This location is great for seniors and smaller families, offering a mix of nature and modern elements that make your photos pop.
Lincoln Park, Springfield, IL
Lincoln Park is another location with unique and beautiful, fun spots throughout the park! Lincoln Park is an excellent choice for seniors, couples or small families. Due to the tightness of some of its main "photo spots", extended families are trickier at this location, unless you are solely looking for open grass.
Lincoln Park is known for its stone bridge and fountain, providing a timeless, classic vibe for your session. There are also plenty of trees and trails to showcase nature within your session.
Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Springfield, IL
If you're looking for a nature-filled photoshoot, Lincoln Memorial Gardens is the place. At this beautiful location, you are surrounded by nature from the moment you arrive. The parking lot greets you with a stunning tree-lined path, which is especially breathtaking in the fall. Once you step into the gardens, you’ll find several trails, winding pathways, and tall trees that create the perfect natural setting for your photos.
Lincoln Memorial Gardens is ideal for families, both small and extended, as well as seniors who adore nature.
Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve, Mahomet, IL
If you are up for a little bit of traveling within Central, IL, this location excites me as a photographer because of its unique, breathtaking beauty. This is my hands down favorite location to shoot at, which is why I had to include it in my location guide blog even through it is roughly an hour and half from Springfield, IL.
Think of a dream fairytale location, and this one likely will live up to those expectations. The flowers and greenery can be found throughout the park with unique touches. There are trails, a waterfall, stunning red bridge over a clear pond with colorful fish, a gazebo surrounded by eye catching floral touches. Also, not far from the Botanical Gardens is a covered bridge that is another great option for your session.
Whether you are booking a senior, family or another portrait session and up for a little extra of a drive, this is a great location to consider!
